AI Nature Camera "Petal" by Wonder Aims to Foster Friendship Between Users and Backyard Plants at CES 2025
At the recent CES 2025 Unveiled media event, Wonder, the innovative minds behind the Bird Buddy smart bird feeder, unveiled their latest creation - an AI-powered nature camera named Petal. Franci Zidar, CEO of Wonder and co-founder of Bird Buddy, shared that the Petal is designed to help users become intimately acquainted with the nature in their own backyards.
The Petal is a unique cup-shaped camera that can be mounted in various ways, such as wrapping its flexible stem around objects or clipping it onto planters. Its design seamlessly blends with the natural environment, further enhanced by an optional leaf-shaped solar panel attachment, giving it the appearance of a modern, bionic flower.
Equipped with the ability to capture photos, livestream its surroundings, and identify its inhabitants, the Petal sends footage directly to the user's smartphone. Zidar explained that the built-in "Nature Intelligence" AI assists in identifying any anomalies, providing users with actionable care alerts and personalised insights into the happenings in their yard or garden.
Zidar revealed that a chat feature is in the works, allowing Petal users to interact with nature. For example, users can ask a flower if it's lonely, prompting recommendations for other plants that thrive in similar conditions. Additionally, Wonder has introduced the "Wonder Block" modular system, offering wildlife habitats like seed trays, bug hotels, and butterfly feeders to attract more biodiversity to gardens.
The Petal is set to launch on Kickstarter in the upcoming spring, with a retail price of under $100 and expected shipping in early 2026. The release date for the Wonder Blocks system is yet to be determined, promising even more ways for users to connect with and nurture their local ecosystems.
