Adobe Announces New Photoshop, Firefly Image 3 Foundation Model
Adobe dropped some major announcements at MAX London, the first stop of the world's largest creativity conference.
The creative software giant first unveiled a new Photoshop (beta), featuring advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), which include Generate Image and Generative Fill with Reference Image.
Generate Image lets you tap the capabilities of generative AI to produce images from scratch with only text prompts. The new tool can supposedly "shorten the distance between the blank page and amazing results" so you can speed up the creation process. Generate Image, meanwhile, has been upgraded, now allowing you to add AI-generated images using a reference image, which can then blend seamlessly with the original.
These new tools are powered by Firefly Image 3 Foundation Model, which Adobe also announced at the event. The updated AI model reportedly brings massive advancements with regard to quality and control. These include higher-quality image generations, better understanding of prompts, new levels of detail and variety, and improvements that enable fast ideation, among others. The model also delivers better results when it comes to lighting, positioning and attention to detail.
The new Adobe tools are now available in beta in Photoshop and are expected to roll out to all later in the year. As for Firefly 3, you can already try out some of the new advancements for free on Adobe's website.
Apart from the two announcements, Adobe also launched the new Adobe Express mobile apps to all users across web and mobile. The launch brings Firefly-powered features like Text to Image, Text effects, Generative Fill and Text to Template into the hands of millions more users on mobile.
Other key announcements include the integration of Firefly Image 3 to InDesign with Text to Image (beta) and new creative capabilities for enterprise users. InDesign's Text to Image tool lets you generate images with the help of AI, accelerating ideation and allowing you to create content in mere seconds.
"Adobe’s steady stream of generative AI innovations are inspiring demand across the creative community – from
students to creative professionals and Fortune 500 companies," said David Wadhwani, President of Digital Media
Business at Adobe. "With the latest release of Photoshop, the new Firefly Image 3 Model and the recent launch of
Express mobile apps, we’re bringing the power of AI to creators whenever and wherever they need it."
Adobe said that Firefly has been used to generate more than seven billion images to date.
