5 Reasons Why The LG DualUp Ergo Monitor Is Awesome

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

When you first set your eyes upon this monitor, it’s probably going to leave you confused, perhaps even bewildered. And right after that you might be questioning, why? This is the LG DualUp Ergo monitor (28MQ780-B) and as you can tell right away, it has a really unique aspect ratio. We’ve LG to thank for sponsoring this video and so after trying this out for a couple of weeks, here are 5 reasons why we think the LG DualUp Ergo Monitor is ridiculously awesome.

Design

Now despite being a rather unique looking monitor, it still definitely has that touch of LG. The design is simply really clean with minimal bezels all around with a professional looking shell that wouldn’t look out of place anywhere. Right in the middle of the bottom bezel is where you’ll find the small joystick to access and use the OSD and flanking both sides to that, you’ll find the built-in speakers, which doesn’t sound too shabby for sure.

One additional thing that LG has implemented which helps maintain the clean aesthetic is the use of USB Type-C. Just with this one cable alone, you’ll not only be able to connect your display to your device, but it’ll also be able to provide up to 90W of charging and even opens up access to the two USB 3.0 ports on the monitor itself, giving you that much more versatility.

Of course, even if you don’t use Type-C, there are other display cables provided in the box and other ports on the monitor itself to use to connect your preferred device such as two HDMI 2.0 ports and a DisplayPort 1.4. All of which will be able to easily power the full resolution of the display at 60Hz.

Versatility & Ergonomics

But putting aside the design of the monitor itself for now, we have to take a look at what ‘Ergo’ in the name brings to the table. So as it so happens, you don’t get a standard monitor stand with this very monitor. Instead, you have a really versatile and clean looking monitor arm that’s very useful.

Mounting it is really simple and all you really have to do is to slide it over the edge of your desk and tighten the oversized screw to clamp it all down. The bottom of the plate will bite into the steps and this will ensure that the entire mount is properly secured. With that, you simply need to slide the monitor onto the latches of the VESA mount, route the cables through the well-positioned cable management system and you’re done! It’s a completely toolless and fuss-free installation.

And now in practice, the amount of possible movement and positions you can actually get is pretty staggering. The arm will be able to extend or retract up to 210mm, swivel up to ±335 degrees, a height adjustment of up to 130mm, tilt 25 degrees in either direction and you can even pivot 90 degrees should you wish to do so. Needless to say, this will be able to cater to your exact setup and preference with ease.

Display & Aspect Ratio

So you have a great mount and all but what about the display itself? As you’ve already seen, the most unique aspect about this monitor is the aspect ratio.

This features a 16:18 aspect ratio and yes, that is exactly double 16:9 if you were to put two of those monitors on the top and bottom. So you’re essentially getting two monitors in one, but you don’t have to worry about desk clutter or the need for additional mounts, and you don’t need to calibrate two separate monitors either, which is a huge advantage for professionals and creatives.

The panel itself is also really great. It’s a 27.6-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 2,880 running at 60Hz with that unique 16:18 aspect ratio and it also covers 98% DCI-P3 with a maximum brightness of 300 nits.

It is basically a really beautiful display that will not only be great for general usage and content consumption, but equally capable for content creation and for the most demanding of professionals. This will handle it all. And even if that’s not your focus, the fact remains that it is essentially two displays in one, which means this is great for multi-tasking with multiple windows open, or perhaps a really long script like this one. It’s going to be great.

PBP

Additionally, this monitor has a trick up its sleeve. LG has included a picture-by-picture mode that’s really versatile.

With PBP, you can easily connect two devices to the monitor and have both of them output at the same time, exactly like you would have with a dual display setup. So for instance, you can have your laptop connected via Type-C or DisplayPort while you can have a gaming console connected via HDMI. This will allow you to work for the most part and game during your breaks without the need to change sources. Productivity and gaming at the same time.

Additionally, you can also connect two cables to a single device and have the monitor act like two individual monitors instead, making for a really easy and clean multi-monitor setup. Really nice.

Best Use Cases/Scenarios

So who would consider getting a LG DualUp Ergo monitor?

We would say that this definitely appeals to professionals and creatives who want the versatility of two displays without sacrificing desk space. Not only do you get a great panel with a nice high resolution and superb colors, the unique aspect ratio will prove to be really useful for many different applications. Not to mention that versatility that the included ergonomic stand brings, which anyone can definitely appreciate. To top it all off, it retails for just about $1,000 Singapore Dollars (999 SGD). For what you’re getting, that is really reasonably priced.
