YouTube Adds AI Editing, Shopping and Personalised Feeds

YouTube is adding AI assistance across video creation, moderation and shopping as it expands tools for creators and viewers. At its Made on YouTube event, the company unveiled draft feedback and thumbnail suggestions in YouTube Studio, a Gemini-powered editing assistant for Shorts, and new ways to compare products before buying. It is also testing personalised feeds and stronger likeness protections, while planning to extend its shopping affiliate programme to 35 countries by year-end.

The additions to YouTube Studio will offer feedback on video drafts, suggest thumbnails matched to a channel and let creators test as many as three video cuts. A Gemini-powered assistant in Shorts and YouTube Create will help edit clips, remove pauses and synchronise music.
YouTube is testing optional AI comment moderation that can adapt to a creator’s preferences. Its likeness-protection tools will combine facial and voice detection to help identify unauthorised uses of a person’s identity.
The YouTube Shopping affiliate programme is set to reach 35 countries by the end of 2026. More than 1.3 million creators are already enrolled. Creators in India and Brazil will be able to tag Amazon products, while product tags will show local offers to viewers in different markets.
For viewers, Custom Feeds will let US users save homepage tabs for interests such as documentaries or DIY content on web, mobile and TV. Ask YouTube is also gaining shopping questions, follow-ups and product-comparison tables, plus voice commands on televisions.
