Xiaomi has entered the competitive smart eyewear market with the launch of its first AI-powered glasses, unveiled during its “Human x Car x Home” event on Thursday.

The new device, priced from 1,999 yuan (USD 278.54), features a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and Qualcomm’s AR1 chip. It offers 8.6 hours of battery life on a single charge and recharges fully in 45 minutes, according to the company.

The glasses are powered by Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant, enabling users to take photos, record videos, recognise objects, translate text, and scan QR codes for mobile payments using voice commands.

Xiaomi’s smart glasses mark the company’s latest move into AI-driven consumer electronics, joining a market already led by Meta Platforms and Ray-Ban, whose smart glasses held over 60% of global market share last year, according to Counterpoint.

Key suppliers for Xiaomi’s eyewear include Sunny Optical, a major Apple supplier, and Sony.

The launch event also featured several other new products, including the Mix Flip 2 foldable phone, a 12.5-inch Pad 7S Pro with an XRING O1 3nm chip, the tenth-generation smart band, and the Watch S4.

Xiaomi expanded its home appliance line-up with a hair dryer, a combo vacuum and mopping robot, a floor scrubber, and an air conditioner.

The company has previously invested in the smart glasses sector through ventures like Superhexa, which released the Jiehuan AI audio glasses last year.

Other Chinese tech firms are also entering the market. Huawei launched its updated AI glasses in April, priced at 2,299 yuan (USD 320), offering voice commands and real-time translation but no camera. Baidu’s Xiaodu AI glasses, featuring a camera and powered by its Ernie AI models, are expected later this year.

Counterpoint forecasts a 60% growth in the global smart glasses market this year, following a 210% year-on-year increase in 2024.
