Chinese self-driving technology developer WeRide plans to launch robotaxi services in Hong Kong and Singapore. The organisation also intends to introduce robobuses in Hong Kong, expanding its operations beyond mainland China.

Senior Director of Public Relations and Marketing Maeve Zhang confirmed the planned entry into Hong Kong and Singapore. Zhang stated a safety operator would initially be on board vehicles in Singapore, complying with local regulations.

The Guangzhou-based organisation will launch Robotaxi GXR in Singapore through a collaboration with Grab. Passengers in Singapore will be able to hail a self-driving vehicle using the Grab app starting April 1.

WeRide reported 90% revenue growth in 2025, reaching USD 98 million (685 million yuan). The organisation's loss narrowed by 34% to 1.7 billion yuan, with robotaxi revenue more than tripling to 148 million yuan.

WeRide is working towards unit-level break-even in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where it was granted a licence for fully driverless operations. The organisation posted record earnings on Monday.

Other Chinese self-driving organisations are also expanding beyond the mainland as they identify new business potential. Baidu’s Apollo Go in 2024 became the first company to receive approval to conduct road tests in Hong Kong.

Apollo Go vehicles accumulated 20,000 km of safe driving in Hong Kong, the company said in August. Chairman and CEO Robin Li Yanhong stated last year that Apollo Go achieved per-unit break-even in Wuhan, the capital city of central Hubei province.

Guangzhou-based Pony.ai is in talks to expand to Hong Kong. Public Relations Manager Guo Yu indicated 2026 would be the start of commercialisation for the organisation.

Pony.ai's fleet in Shenzhen achieved break-even on a per-vehicle basis in February. Its fleet in Guangzhou also reached this milestone last year.

Pony.ai is scheduled to report its fourth-quarter earnings on Thursday.
