U.S. robotaxi company Waymo aims to launch its fully driverless ride-hailing service in London by the fourth quarter of 2026. The firm, a unit of Google parent Alphabet, seeks to expand its international presence.

Waymo has experienced steady growth in the United States despite strict regulations and costly technology. Head of policy and government affairs for the U.K. and Europe at Waymo, Ben Loewenstein, confirmed the timeline.
The British government is developing a regulatory framework for safe autonomous vehicle deployment. It intends to position the U.K. as a leader in autonomous vehicle technology.

Officials estimate the sector could generate 38,000 jobs and contribute up to 42 billion pounds (USD 57.86 billion) to the U.K. economy by 2035. This industry growth aligns with increasing investor interest in artificial intelligence.
Waymo’s expansion comes amid significant market competition. Uber-backed startup Wayve is also expected to launch in London this year.
Another major competitor, Tesla, led by billionaire Elon Musk, forecasts millions of its robotaxis will be on roads by the end of 2026. Tesla deployed its first driverless cabs in the United States last June.
