Updated: Jan 5

Walmart has stated that it is not advertising on social media platform X, becoming one of the latest brands to distance itself from the site owned by Elon Musk.

A spokesperson for Walmart mentioned that they have found other platforms that better reach their customers.

X, formerly known as Twitter, has been struggling to retain advertisers since Musk acquired the company in October 2022. The platform has faced criticism and an exodus of advertisers due to concerns about antisemitic content.

Earlier this month, Musk agreed with a user on X who made false claims about the Jewish community, sparking controversy. Musk later apologised for his post but criticised advertisers who suspended their ads, accusing them of "blackmail." Major brands such as Apple, Walt Disney and Warner Bros Discovery also suspended their ads on X following a report from liberal watchdog group Media Matters, which highlighted ads appearing next to antisemitic posts.
