Schools in the United States are introducing a humanoid robot into classrooms. This pilot programme aims to assist with student engagement and learning supported by artificial intelligence. Realbotix has launched its AI powered teacher's assistant, Optio, at Salamanca City Central School District, alongside its M Series humanoid robot.

This initiative will initially support classroom activities and interactive learning. Plans exist to extend the programme to approximately 500 high school students during a future academic period. A prior deployment, in an unrelated development, saw Norwegian technology firm No Isolation introduce the AV1 classroom robot. This earlier robot facilitated remote lesson attendance for children with long term illnesses.

And the current undertaking combines AI tutoring software with the M Series humanoid robot deployment. Realbotix describes this integration as establishing an interactive learning environment for high school students.

Optio serves as an AI powered teacher's assistant and an at home tutor. It allows students to interact with personalised digital avatars, which have been trained using district approved curriculum. The system offers concept reinforcement, one on one tutoring, multilingual homework assistance, and around the clock academic support.

Realbotix indicated that the platform includes education specific safety controls, district oversight, and safeguards. These measures are designed to prevent inappropriate responses. The system is also adapted to support neurodiverse learners through personalised learning pathways and consistent access to educational resources.

But this pilot programme will first be available to students enrolled in Woz ED AI and Robotics courses. This reflects Salamanca's status as a Woz ED STEM Pathway district.

The programme's further expansion is anticipated to encompass approximately 500 high school students in a subsequent academic period, according to the company. Andrew Kiguel, Chief Executive Officer of Realbotix, affirmed that his organisation is moving beyond lab demonstrations and pilots. He stated the aim is to deliver real, embodied AI directly into classrooms, supporting teachers, engaging students, and demonstrating that advanced robotics can operate effectively in live educational environments.

The M Series robot has been designed for interactive, face to face engagement. It integrates natural language processing, expressive facial movements, and real time conversational capabilities. These features enable it to communicate with students in a human like manner during classroom activities.

So this robot is capable of responding to questions, participating in discussions, and delivering educational content through spoken interaction. This arrangement permits students to engage directly with embodied artificial intelligence rather than via a conventional screen based interface. The incorporation of realistic facial expressions and responsive dialogue intends to create a more immersive and engaging learning experience.

The robot will also be utilised alongside Woz ED AI and Robotics courses. This allows students to investigate how advanced AI systems perceive, process, and respond to human input. Through direct interaction, learners can acquire practical understanding of concepts such as conversational AI, machine learning, robotics engineering, and human machine collaboration.

Realbotix stated that the deployment intends not only to support classroom engagement but also to assist students in comprehending emerging technologies. These technologies are expected to become increasingly prominent across various industries. This initiative functions as a practical demonstration of embodied AI, illustrating how humanoid robots can interact with individuals, aid learning environments, and potentially support future educational applications.
