This Japanese Body Pillow Comes With Its Own Built-In Air-Conditioning System

Kyle Chua

Let’s face it, it’s hot in Singapore throughout the year. The heat, however, becomes even worse and, in some instances, unbearable during summer, making it hard to sleep at night. Sometimes our air conditioners alone can’t keep us cool enough to get some shut-eye.

This is where the Atex Kaiun Soyo comes in – a giant, huggable pillow with a built-in air-conditioning system to help you beat the heat and enjoy a restful night’s sleep during those hot and humid summer nights. The device essentially works like a regular air-conditioner, but instead of it being mounted on the wall or standing in the corner of your room, it’s by your side in bed.

The pillow similarly has tubes and fans to circulate and cool the air in your room. Air first enters through the fans, which are situated by the legs. It then moves around the body, where the heat and humidity are cooled down before it’s pushed out of the pillow’s tubes.

The Kaiun Soyo can reportedly push up to 3,000 litres of air per minute. It additionally has three airflow settings (high, medium and low) and targeted cooling, giving you the option to choose how air circulates and where it’ll come out from.

What’s more, the pillow’s shape, which oddly resembles the symbol for Pi, is flexible enough to work with different sleeping positions. You can, for instance, lie in its centre with your back flat on your bed. You can also cuddle it like you would a body pillow. Whatever position you're most comfortable in, the pillow will still be able to keep you cool.

The unit has to be plugged into a power outlet to work using the included power cord and USB AC adapter. But in case there’s no outlet near your bed, you can alternatively use a power bank.

The fans that come with the pillow have a service life of about 1,800 hours, which equate to about seven months of use, if you have it turned on for eight hours per night. Once the service life is up, you’ll have to exchange them for new ones.

Atex has the Kaiun Soyo priced at ¥25,000 on its website. It's not such a bad price, considering how the innovative invention could prove invaluable in helping us stop sweating (get it?) about falling asleep at night.
