The iPad Mini 6 Could Sport an 8.5-Inch Display and an A15 Chip
Updated: Aug 21, 2021
The iPad Mini 6 is due for a refresh, and we're hearing plenty of rumours it might be coming later this year.
Last year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the iPad Mini 6 might have an 8.5-inch screen.
Meanwhile, 9to5Mac’s sources shared that the device could be powered by Apple’s upcoming A15 CPU. Other rumoured features include a USB-C port and a magnetic Smart Connector.

Macworld projected that the A15 CPU will be bigger than its predecessor and will have 15-20 per cent more transistors. This can improve the processor’s performance, allowing the yet-to-be-announced iPad Mini 6 to launch apps and run more quickly.

Apple could be moving to use a USB-C port that will let users connect even more types of cables and accessories to the device, no longer limiting them to the lightning connector.
With speculations hinting that a magnetic Smart Connector will be added to the iPad Mini 6, tech enthusiasts believe that Apple might soon put out Smart Connector-compatible accessories for the new product, but that’s if the rumours are true.
Speaking of unconfirmed predictions, display supply chain expert Ross Young maintained that the next-generation iPad Mini will not have a mini-LED display, contradicting a now-paywalled DigiTimes story that said the opposite.
Young clarified that he got the information from Apple's supposed mini-LED supplier Radiant Opto-Electronics — the trader that DigiTimes claimed would be providing such screens.
It doesn't make much sense that the iPad Mini 6 might have the mini-LED screen because as Young observed, such a display is usually reserved for higher-end products. The iPad Mini 6 does not fall under this category.
So it is highly likely that the next iPad Mini will not be getting a mini-LED screen.
Amidst these conflicting statements, it is worth noting that Apple suppliers tend to avoid sharing sensitive information about their client's products.

Aside from the already mentioned specs, the iPad Mini 6 might have support for a smaller Apple Pencil, improved speakers and a Touch ID function that has been moved to the power button.
Front Page Tech’s sources disclosed that the tablet could come in silver, black and gold.
Details on the release date are mixed. Kuo shared that the iPad Mini 6 could be unveiled to the public in the latter part of 2021. Though unverified, Chinese site MyDrivers leaked that the sixth generation version of the tablet could be more expensive than the entry-level iPad. No specific prices were mentioned in the report.
