Tencent Expands Yuanbao AI Assistant in WeChat, Enhancing User Experience

Tencent is testing its Yuanbao AI assistant within WeChat, expanding its capabilities beyond chat. Currently branded as the Red Envelope Assistant, Yuanbao now offers features such as pinning to the top, sharing, and interacting with content.
The AI assistant can respond to images and files, as well as summarise articles from official accounts and web links. If fully implemented, Yuanbao could integrate seamlessly into WeChat, which has over 1 billion daily active users.
As DeepSeek faces high server loads, displaying messages like "the server is busy, please try again later," users have turned to alternative AI platforms. Tencent’s Yuanbao and Baidu’s ERNIE Bot, which integrate the DeepSeek model, have gained popularity due to their higher computing power.
Following its integration with DeepSeek, Yuanbao became the top-ranked app on Apple’s China App Store, surpassing DeepSeek in rankings.
