Telegram Offers Larger Uploads, Faster Downloads & Exclusive Stickers With New Paid Tier

Telegram has finally launched a new paid tier that includes doubled limits on your download speeds and upload sizes for US$4.99 per month.

The new paid subscription, which was first announced earlier this month, lets you enjoy a range of exclusive features that aren't available on the free version of the app.

The most notable of which, as outlined by the company in a recent blog post, is perhaps the 4GB maximum upload size that allows you to, for instance, share up to four hours of 1080p video. The existing version of the app caps uploads to 2GB.

In line with this, you'll also be able to enjoy uncapped download speeds on the app. Telegram says you can access your cloud storage and download files "as fast as your network can keep up".

What's more, almost all the limits for what you can do with your account will similarly be doubled. You can, for example, now follow up to 1000 channels. Additionally, you can create up to 20 chat folders with up to 200 chats each as well as add a fourth account to your app. You can also now pin 10 chats in the main list and save up to 10 favourite stickers.

You also get access to an exclusive collection of stickers and reactions. A lot of the stickers feature full-screen animations that will be seen by everyone in your chat group. Telegram touts that these will be updated monthly by its artists.

Other exclusive features include a special premium badge beside your name, animated profile pictures, chat management tools, voice-to-text access and the removal of ads, among a few others.

Telegram also outlined a list of improvements to the app, which will be available to all users. It promises to continue adding free features for non-paying users down the line. The next ones being rolled out include the ability to enable join requests for public groups and verification badges in chat, to name a couple.

The announcement came as Telegram celebrated a new milestone – 700 million monthly active users. The instant messaging platform said it was also one of the top five most downloaded apps worldwide this year, noting how its growth comes from user recommendations rather than paid ads.
