Updated: Jan 4
Top tech executives from Alphabet, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic will meet with Vice President Kamala Harris and other US officials to discuss AI issues, including concerns about privacy violations and biases.
The chief executives of some of the world's biggest tech companies are set to attend a meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris and top US officials to address concerns around artificial intelligence (AI).
The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, will be attended by the CEOs of Alphabet, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
The White House has expressed concerns about the fast growth of AI technology and the need for companies to ensure their products are safe before they are released to the public. There are fears that AI could be used for scams and misinformation, while also posing threats to privacy and biases.
President Joe Biden has previously emphasised that tech companies must ensure their products are safe, and the meeting will likely focus on this topic. The administration has also sought public comments on proposed accountability measures for AI systems as concerns grow about its impact on national security and education.
The meeting will include several US officials, including Biden's Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Director of the National Economic Council Lael Brainard, and Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has previously expressed concerns about AI and the need for government oversight. Meanwhile, ChatGPT, an AI program that has recently gained popularity for its ability to generate quick and accurate responses to a wide range of queries, has also drawn attention from US lawmakers.
