The exhibition titled “Notre-Dame de Paris: The Augmented Exhibition” in New York offers an interactive experience spanning 850 years of Notre Dame’s rich heritage. From its construction in 1163 to the tragic fire in 2019, the exhibit showcases the cathedral's legacy through 3D scenes, images, and videos.

The display also highlights the extensive restoration work, revealing how modern technology like 3D mapping and drones have been instrumental in the reconstruction efforts following the destructive blaze that ravaged the cathedral's roof and spire.

French education startup Histovery has curated the exhibition, which has travelled to various cities worldwide, including Dubai, Montreal, and Washington, D.C. Currently, the exhibit is hosted at Manhattan’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine until January 31, offering visitors a glimpse into the resilience of these architectural marvels.

Reverend Patrick Malloy, dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, remarked, “Notre Dame and St. John the Divine are both symbols of resilience,” underscoring the significance of these historic landmarks in the face of adversity.

The AR experience at Notre Dame allows visitors to explore the cathedral through illuminated photo panels and 3D models, including a life-size chimera. Equipped with a “HistoPad,” guests can delve into the cathedral's intricate details, from its gothic architecture to sacred relics, offering a virtual time-travel experience to pivotal historical events.

Asia Laird, managing director of Histovery U.S., described the experience as “It's like time travel, except it’s real,” capturing the essence of the immersive journey through Notre Dame’s storied past.

For those unable to visit the exhibition in person, a virtual tour of Notre Dame is available through Friends of Notre-Dame de Paris, an international nonprofit dedicated to the cathedral's restoration and preservation efforts.

National Geographic, having previewed the renovations, anticipates that visitors will be left “stupefied” and “awestruck” by the restored landmark, projecting an estimated 15 million annual visitors to flock to the reopened Notre Dame Cathedral.
