Social Media Platform X Introduces Audio and Video Calling Feature
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has announced the launch of an early version of video and audio calling for select users.
Elon Musk, the chief technology officer and owner of X, revealed the new feature as part of his vision to transform the platform into an "everything app." In a post on the platform, Musk described it as an "Early version of video & audio calling on X."
This latest addition to the platform comes as part of a series of updates and changes under Musk's leadership since he acquired the social media company almost a year ago. After rebranding Twitter as X, Musk expressed his intention to turn it into a super-app, offering a wide range of services including messaging, social networking and peer-to-peer payments.
In August, Musk teased the upcoming feature, stating that users would not require a phone number to access it. The audio and video calling functionality will be available on Apple's iOS, Google's Android and personal computers.
The introduction of audio and video calling on X demonstrates the platform's commitment to enhancing user experience and expanding its capabilities beyond traditional social media functions. With this new feature, X aims to provide users with a more comprehensive communication experience within the platform itself.
