The Singaporean telco giant announced it has cut the price of its Inflight Unlimited Data Plan from S$14.50 to S$5. The plan lets you enjoy unlimited data access for one flight or a 24-hour period – depending on which one is shorter – on aircrafts equipped with Panasonic’s AeroMobile system.

There are currently 19 airlines that provide AeroMobile service, and they're the following:

  • Aer Lingus

  • Air Belgium

  • Asiana

  • Biman Bangladesh

  • Cathay Pacific

  • EgyptAir

  • Emirates

  • Etihad

  • EVA Air

  • ITA Airways

  • Kuwait Airways

  • Lufthansa

  • Malaysia Airlines

  • SAS

  • Singapore Airlines

  • SWISS

  • TAP Air Portugal

  • Turkish Airlines

  • Uzbekistan Airways

For Singapore Airlines, for example, you can use the plan when you're riding any of the following aircraft:

  • A350-900LH

  • A350-900ULR

  • B737-8

  • B777-300ER (select planes)

  • B787-10

Do note the plan is not available to subscribers of mobile virtual network operators that use Singtel's network, including GOMO.

You can subscribe to the plan by dialling *100# after your flight reaches cruising altitude. You'll then receive a series of prompts that you have to follow. Once activated, the plan is valid for the whole duration of your flight. If you're, for instance, taking a connecting flight, your plan is only valid for the first leg of your trip. That means your plan ends once your flight touches down and you'll have to purchase a new plan for the second part of your trip.

Singtel does note that, when it comes to speed, the plan may not be "optimal" for all kinds of activities. "The speed of in-flight data connection supports messaging optimally," said the telco. "Your experience with photo sharing or web surfing on content and image intensive sites may not be optimal."

You also have to note that the plan is subject to a fair-use policy, so there's a chance of your connection getting throttled if you use it "excessively". The threshold, however, is not defined.
