Singpass has received a few upgrades that will help Singaporeans with various transactions along with a new look.

The Government Technology Agency (GovTech) revealed the brand new look for Singpass’ logo and its new features that “offer greater convenience and accessibility” in in-person or online transactions with the government and private sector.

Singpass’ new look features its iconic red-and-black colour motif with a modern typeface. It also has its “I” shaped like a keyhole. These changes to the logo signify the Singaporean government’s focus on providing “citizen-centric digital services while ensuring security and trust in [the country’s] national digital identity platform,” and Singpass’ continuity of its services to “meet the needs of its citizens and businesses in an increasingly digitalised society.”

Singpass’ application programming interfaces will be open to businesses and agencies to enable or create new services for Singapore’s residents. It can also be integrated with an organisation’s services to enhance customer experiences and improve business efficiency. A customer could use their Singpass to login to a company’s website, removing the need for companies to have their own authentication platforms, for example.

Singaporeans can now also use Singpass to access more services across sectors from banking to healthcare, retrieve personal information, digitally sign documents and remotely authorise transactions without using passwords. This removes the need for hardcopy documents to verify a person’s identity.

GovTech assured that Singpass will be safe to use for authenticating a person’s identity due to Singpass’s cryptographic technology. Singpass users will be issued identity certificates by the National Certification Authority for greater identity assurance. To minimise crimes like fraud, a user’s signature is cryptographically linked to them and validated at the point of signing a document digitally.

Key transactional pages on the Singpass website and app will be in Singapore’s four official languages to ensure Singpass services are easily accessible by the end of 2021.

Users without mobile phones will still be able to easily use Singpass services through One-Time Passwords by SMS or with a face recognition scan using Face Verification on web browsers or at kiosks.
