Samsung Electronics has launched its slimmest flagship smartphone yet, the S25 Edge, as it aims to outpace Apple in the premium mobile market.

The S25 Edge, revealed on Tuesday, features a 5.8 millimetre-thick body and a 6.7-inch (170 mm) screen, making it larger than the basic S25 model but only slightly heavier.
The device includes Samsung’s latest artificial intelligence tools, such as multimodal AI, which enables users to interact with the phone in real time using both vision and voice through the camera.
Samsung said the new model was developed in response to growing demand from consumers in their 20s and 30s for slimmer, more portable smartphones.
To achieve the thinner design, Samsung restructured internal components, including the printed circuit board and thermal systems.
The S25 Edge will be available in South Korea starting May 23 and in the United States from May 30. Samsung plans to release it in about 30 countries, including China and several in Europe.
The model starts at USD 1,099 and is positioned to attract users seeking high performance in a compact form.
Analysts believe the timing of the launch is strategic, as Apple is expected to release a thinner iPhone in the second half of the year.
“By releasing the product a few months ahead, Samsung could inflict some impact on Apple and attract consumers looking for thinner smartphones,” said Ryu Young-ho, Senior Analyst at NH Investment & Securities.
Samsung became the world’s top smartphone vendor in the first quarter of 2025, capturing 20% of the global market, narrowly ahead of Apple’s 19%, according to Counterpoint Research.
However, Samsung warned last month that second-quarter shipments could be affected if tariff risks reduce demand.
