Rolls-Royce Unveils Its First All-Electric Car, the Spectre
British luxury automotive brand Rolls-Royce has unveiled its first fully-electric motor car, the Spectre. The company dubs the vehicle the “world’s first Ultra-Luxury Electric Super Coupe” and states it is the "spiritual successor to the Phantom Coupe".
Back in 2021, Rolls-Royce announced that it would transition to a fully electrified product line-up by 2030. At the same time, the company revealed that it had begun on-road testing for the Spectre. Earlier this year, the EV completed its winter testing near the Arctic Circle.
The four-seater two-door car is built on an all-aluminium architecture with a structure that the company claims is 30% stiffer than previous models. It has a kerb weight of just shy of 3,000kg and measures 5,453mm long and 2,080mm wide.
Rolls-Royce says that the final power, acceleration and range figures are still "being refined" as the EV goes through its final phase of testing that should be concluded by the second quarter of next year. The brand did give estimates based on preliminary data which shows that the Spectre is expected to have an all-electric range of 520km and offer 900Nm of torque from its 430kW powertrain. As for acceleration, the automotive icon estimates that the EV — weighing over three tons — will be able to do 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds.
On the software side, the Spectre is equipped with the company's new SPIRIT software architecture with full integration of the Whispers app. When cornering, the car uses 18 sensors to adjust the steering, braking, power delivery and suspension parameters to ensure that vehicle remains stable.
Rolls-Royce did not disclose the exact price of the Spectre as most of their vehicles are sold with bespoke customer requirements but said that the pricing is somewhere between the Cullinan and Phantom. The luxury EV is available for commissioning now and the first batch will be delivered to clients by the fourth quarter of 2023.
