The PS VR 2 is not due until the end of February 2023 onwards, according to the pre-order listings.

The headset is Sony’s second crack at virtual reality (VR) for PlayStation after releasing the PS VR on the PS4 in 2016. The next-generation device touts a number of key upgrades over the original, highlighted by 4K HDR visuals, revamped controllers and eye-tracking capabilities.

For the display, the device houses two OLED panels (one for each eye) that support a resolution of 2000 x 2040 – over four times the resolution of the PS VR. The panels also boast a 110-degree field of view and refresh rates of up to 120Hz.

The new Sense controllers support haptic feedback and adaptive triggers – two key features of the PS5’s Dual Sense controllers.

The headset includes eye-tracking cameras to follow your line of sight when aiming or looking around. It also detects the motion of your eyes to allow foveated rendering, a VR technique that boosts the resolution of where you’re looking while reducing it on the peripheral.

Also worth pointing out: the PS VR2 isn’t a standalone headset like the Oculus Quest 2. You’ll need to connect it to a PS5 for it to be able to play games. So if you don’t have a PS5 yet, you might want to get one first before pre-ordering the PS VR2.
