Premier League Referees Will Wear Cameras to Provide Insight Into the Difficulties of Being a Match Official

Referee Jarred Gillett will wear a "RefCam" on his head during the Crystal Palace vs. Manchester United Premier League match. The camera will provide insights into the challenges faced by match officials and will be linked to the referee's standard communications system. The footage captured will be used for a program later in the year aimed at educating fans about the demands of officiating in the Premier League.

The referee for Monday's Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United will wear a camera on his head for a programme that will air later this year and provide insight into the difficulties of being a match official.

According to the league, the technology is being utilised one-time only to produce a short programme promoting match officials. The footage won't be broadcast live.

“Fans will be able to view it later in the year as part of a program ... aimed at offering further insight and education into the demands of officiating in the Premier League,” the competition said.
