iPhone 13 Might Include Higher-Quality ProRes Video Format

With the date of Apple’s iPhone 13 launch yet to be announced, unconfirmed leaks of the anticipated smartphone have spread across the internet, with its speculated camera features being the talk of the town. The rumour that the ProRes video compression format will be available in the iPhone 13 series is getting attention. As Bloomberg reported, the video technology can enhance mobile videography in Apple's next iPhones.

The ProRes feature might let you record clips in a higher-quality format on upcoming iPhones. This will allow you to edit videos with more control. Should the rumoured feature be rolled out on the iPhone 13 series, it would follow ProRAW, Apple’s image capturing format that provides photographers with more post-production control. Since ProRAW is only on iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, ProRes might similarly be exclusively rolled out on the iPhone 13’s Pro models.

Apple launched the ProRes codec family in 2007 to help users carry out real-time and multistream editing, suitable for the work of video editors in the film industry. ProRes also provides high-calibre image-quality preservation and reduced storage rates for high-bit-depth 4:2:2 and 4:4:4:4 video.

ProRes led to accessible and cost-effective editing of full-frame, 10-bit, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 high-definition, 2K, 4K, 5K and larger videos in Final Cut Pro X.

Aside from ProRes, the iPhone 13 could have a video version of the Portrait mode that will have FaceTime support. This feature is rumoured to be called Cinematic Video. With the iPhone’s depth sensor, it could let users control the level of blur on videos after recording.

There could also be a new filter-like system that gives you an opportunity to toggle colours and highlights in your photos. There are supposedly three new style controls, with one of them letting you choose between accentuating a photo’s warm or cool tones without affecting white shades in the image. Another setting will emphasise a photo’s shadows and contrast, creating a dramatic feel. The third style will make a picture’s shadows and colours stand out, producing a more vivid look.

It’s important to know that the controls mentioned above will let users change the colours and highlights of specific objects or people in a photo. This is different from filters, which apply visual changes to an entire picture.

The iPhone 13 series could also have a faster A15 chip, a smaller notch and a faster refresh rate resulting in smoother scrolling.

The other prospective details of the iPhone 13 are nothing new. Apple will reportedly retain the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch regular screen sizes as well as the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch Pro display dimensions. Last year’s designs might be here to stay, too.

Though Apple has not yet announced when the iPhone 13 launch will happen, it is most likely that the next Apple event will be completely virtual since the tech company postponed its office return by at least a month due to a rise in COVID-19 variants.
