Google Pixel Fold Could Feature the Same Inner Display As Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4
Many leakers have long speculated that Google has a foldable Pixel in the works, despite the company remaining tightlipped about what it has in the works.
The search engine giant has yet to make the so-called Pixel Fold official, nor has it been confirmed to be in development. An industry insider, however, is sharing some new details about the foldable phone, seemingly confirming its existence.
Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), a research company that focuses on display-based products, claims Google's debut foldable will feature the same inner display as Samsung's forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4, but the aspect ratios will be different. If this is true, the Pixel Fold could have a wider inner display that comes close to the 16:9 aspect ratio of the Oppo Find N, as Android Central points out. This claim appears to corroborate previous rumours that state the Pixel Fold will have a short and wide inner display rather than the tall and slender display of the Samsung's Z Fold series.
The research executive adds that the Pixel Fold will sport a 5.8-inch outer display, which will be much wider than the rumoured 6.19-inch outer display on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Going by these claims, Samsung's next flagship foldable is shaping up to be a slightly modified version of the previous iteration, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, sporting the same aspect ratio and screen size.
Not much else is known about the Pixel Fold yet, including what specs it might come with and how much it will sell for. But Young notes that Google is expected to start production of the Pixel Fold sometime in Q3 of this year, with a Q4 launch target. This means that it could launch together with the Pixel 7 and the Pixel Watch before the end of 2022. Then again, it's worth mentioning that leakers have gotten the release window of the Pixel Fold wrong before, so until Google itself confirms these claims, they are best taken with a grain of salt. The company could still scrap its plans and perhaps push it to next year.
Though, if it does come out this year, it'll be in direct competition with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which is expected to launch between August and September.
