Oppo Find X3 Pro 5G Review: A Microscope In Your Pocket
Updated: Aug 21, 2021
While all the other flagship smartphones are competing on who has the clearer 100x zoom, Oppo went even closer with the new Oppo Find X3 Pro 5G’s microscope. Oppo installed the world’s first microlens in a smartphone, giving us up to 60X magnification, so you can shoot anything in microscope mode as long as you can put the lens on it.
The 3-megapixel microlens also comes with a ring light to illuminate the object you are looking at and it shoots videos in full HD. On a practical note, I am not sure what I would use the microlens for – but it is definitely something to impress your friends with.
What is practical, though, are Oppo’s upgrades on how you look at pictures and videos on the Find X3 Pro, starting with the True Billion Colour display that Oppo is trumpeting with this device.
To put this into perspective, Oppo claims the 6.7-inch screen can display a billion colours compared to other flagship smartphone’s 16.7 Million colours. If you’re familiar with displays in general, this display is basically capable of 10-bit colour. Tones are really well controlled and the colours are indeed lively and vivid.
In terms of resolution, you’re getting a QHD+ AMOLED display which translates to a really great 525 pixels per inch. Not to mention that it is also capable of a 120Hz refresh rate, which just makes everything feel so much smoother.
It also boasts a 5 million to 1 contrast ratio and up to a max brightness of 1300 nits. In short, it’s a display that you’ll definitely enjoy, be it for media consumption or just general usage.
But perhaps the best use of this display is the cameras. The Oppo Find X3 Pro’s triple-camera array, with the main camera being powered by the Sony IMX 766 processor. You get a 50MP wide-angle main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide angle and a 13MP telephoto camera that can do up to 5x hybrid zoom and 20x digital zoom.
Apart from the telephoto lens, if you are shooting on either the wide or ultra-wide modes, you will get the same colour consistency, thanks to that processor. To add on, your images are also backed up by colour compensations with 765 colour correction solutions. But should you want to, you can edit your pictures with Oppo’s AI Palettes that use the best filters to pop life into any picture.
The Find X3 Pro’s video shooting prowess has also been enhanced with 10-bit and 4K capabilities and it even features manual controls over settings like ISO, white balance and focus. But if you just want to snap and go, switch on the AI Highlight and let the machine automatically turn on HDR, Night Mode, Audio Zoom and Stabilisation when it detects the need to do so.
The other thing that I think sets the Oppo Find X3 Pro apart from the rest is the shape and its seamless design. Even the camera housing is fused into the body, giving the smartphone an uninterrupted look and feel, and the back panel is a special glass made of an anti-glare frost matte material that leaves no fingerprint marks. Even the original cover is made with a lot of thought put into it.
In terms of performance, this phone is no slouch. It comes powered by a Snapdragon 888 processor, 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. For battery, it does feature a 4500mAh unit, which is more than enough for most of you out there. Do note, however, if you’re using 5G, expect significantly shorter battery life. Even so, you can top it up to 40% in 10 minutes, thanks to the 65-watt SuperVOOC charging.
So many features packed into a device like this with smooth edges and curves – it is an incredibly sexy phone, one that will let you look into a world you have never seen before.
