OpenAI Unveils Sora: Text-to-Video Model for ChatGPT Plus and Pro Users
OpenAI introduces Sora, a text-to-video model for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. Sora Turbo is now accessible at no additional cost to users. Users can create videos up to 1080p resolution and 20 seconds long in various aspect ratios.
This move marks the company's expansion into the realm of multimodal AI technologies, following the success of its ChatGPT chatbot introduced in November 2022.
The introduction of Sora aims to compete with similar text-to-video tools offered by tech giants like Meta and Alphabet's Google, as well as Stability AI's Stable Video Diffusion. Initially introduced in February, the AI model was only accessible to safety testers during its research preview phase. However, it is now available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users as Sora Turbo at no extra charge.
In a recent blog post, OpenAI mentioned plans to introduce tailored pricing for different user categories early next year. Users of Sora will have the capability to create videos with resolutions of up to 1080p, lasting up to 20 seconds, and in various aspect ratios including widescreen, vertical, or square.
While Sora is not yet accessible in EU countries, Switzerland, and the UK, OpenAI has confirmed that the AI model will be available in regions where ChatGPT is operational. The company has also taken proactive measures to prevent the misuse of Sora by blocking the creation and upload of harmful content such as child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes.
At the initial launch, the feature allowing uploads of people will be restricted. OpenAI plans to gradually extend this feature to more users as they continue to enhance their deepfake detection and prevention mechanisms.
