OpenAI will open its first office in Seoul, establishing a local entity in South Korea amid rising demand for its ChatGPT service, the company announced Monday.

South Korea ranks second only to the United States in the number of paying ChatGPT subscribers, according to OpenAI.
The company has started hiring staff to support its partnerships in the country and plans to release more details in the coming months.
Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon said South Korea’s comprehensive AI ecosystem makes it one of the most promising markets globally for impactful AI development.
Earlier this year, OpenAI revealed plans to develop artificial intelligence products for South Korea in collaboration with chat app operator Kakao.
Kwon, currently visiting Seoul, is expected to meet with officials from both the ruling People Power Party and the main opposition Democratic Party, according to local media reports.
