These collaborations will not only help OpenAI enhance and train its artificial intelligence (AI) products but also provide news publishers with a share of the profits typically earned by internet giants for distributing their content.

The agreements with The Atlantic and Vox Media follow similar deals signed by OpenAI with other media firms, granting the AI company access to their news content and archives for training its large language models. These partnerships play a crucial role in the development of AI models and can prove to be lucrative for news publishers.

Last week, OpenAI also inked a deal with media conglomerate News Corp, which owns the Wall Street Journal. These strategic partnerships highlight OpenAI's commitment to collaborating with leading media organisations to advance its technology and capabilities.

Vox Media, the parent company of popular platforms like The Verge and Vulture, will work closely with OpenAI to develop innovative products for consumers and advertising partners. OpenAI will gain access to Vox Media's extensive archives, enabling the Microsoft-backed company to enhance its technology and improve the output of its viral chatbot, ChatGPT.

Similarly, The Atlantic will provide OpenAI with access to its content and collaborate on an experimental microsite called Atlantic Labs. This partnership will allow The Atlantic to explore how AI can drive the development of new products and features.

Nicholas Thompson, CEO of The Atlantic, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, "There's a lot of fear in the media industry about partnering with tech platforms. But I'm absolutely convinced these deals can be beneficial if we've learned the right rules, structure them the right way, and hedge our bets."
