OpenAI on Wednesday launched a new ChatGPT Health tab, allowing users to connect medical records and wellness applications, such as Apple Health and MyFitnessPal. The feature aims to answer health-related questions directly within the chatbot.

The introduction expands ChatGPT’s capabilities, offering a dedicated space for health information, which is a popular use for the chatbot. OpenAI reported that more than 230 million people globally ask health and wellness-related questions on ChatGPT weekly.

ChatGPT Health can assist with various tasks, including understanding recent test results, preparing for doctor appointments, and getting advice on diet and workout routines. Users may also evaluate trade-offs between different insurance options based on individual healthcare patterns.
This launch occurs as regulators re-evaluate health technology oversight. U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary said on Tuesday his agency would limit the regulation of wearable devices and software designed to support healthy lifestyles.
Commissioner Makary has previously called ChatGPT a product that should be promoted, while also cautioning against major safety concerns.
OpenAI emphasised privacy for the new feature. "To keep your health information protected and secure, (ChatGPT) Health operates as a separate space with enhanced privacy to protect sensitive data. Conversations in Health are not used to train our foundation models," OpenAI stated.
OpenAI plans to make ChatGPT Health available to all users on web and iOS in the coming weeks.
Initial access is being provided to a small group of early users with ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. These early users are located outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom for testing the experience.
