OpenAI Introduces 'Tasks' Feature to Compete with Alexa and Siri
In a move to challenge the dominance of virtual assistants like Alexa and Siri, OpenAI has unveiled a new beta feature called Tasks for its ChatGPT platform. This feature allows users to schedule future tasks, from one-time reminders to recurring actions, such as concert ticket purchases, weekly news briefings, or daily weather updates.

ChatGPT will not only take requests from users but also suggest tasks based on their conversations, giving users the flexibility to accept or decline these suggestions. The introduction of Tasks marks OpenAI's entry into the virtual assistant arena, aiming to rival established players like Apple and Amazon.
The launch of ChatGPT in late 2022 sparked significant interest in AI companies, prompting Amazon to enhance its Alexa service with GenAI capabilities to stay competitive with AI-powered chatbots. Amazon's CEO, Andy Jassy, announced plans for a revamped version of Alexa that can take actions for users without explicit commands, set to be released in the near future.
Apple, on the other hand, has integrated its "Apple Intelligence" technology into Siri, leveraging ChatGPT's expertise and seeking user consent before accessing OpenAI's services as part of its collaboration with the Microsoft-backed startup. OpenAI has revealed that the beta rollout of Tasks will commence globally for Plus, Team, and Pro users, starting with the web platform and expanding to other users in the coming days.
