OpenAI has named Google Cloud as one of its cloud service providers, expanding its infrastructure partnerships to meet growing computing needs for artificial intelligence development.

Text "OpenAI" glows in cyan on a digital grid background with scattered binary numbers, creating a futuristic and tech-themed mood.

The updated list of suppliers, published on OpenAI’s website, shows the company now relies on services from Alphabet’s Google Cloud, Microsoft, Oracle, and CoreWeave.

The deal with Google was finalised in May after months of discussions, according to a source cited in June.

The move highlights the increasing computing demands required to train and deploy AI models and reflects OpenAI’s strategy to diversify beyond Microsoft, its primary backer.

Until January, Microsoft’s Azure cloud service had been OpenAI’s exclusive data centre infrastructure provider.

OpenAI’s partnership with Google follows earlier agreements with Oracle and SoftBank on the USD 500 billion Stargate infrastructure programme, as well as multi-billion-dollar deals with CoreWeave to expand computing capacity.

Google and OpenAI had been in talks for months but were previously unable to finalise a deal due to OpenAI’s prior exclusivity with Microsoft.
