Nor Robotics Unveils US-Assembled Humanoid Robot Under USD 2,000

Nor Robotics has introduced Nori L3, a humanoid robot assembled in America, scheduled for delivery later this year at a price of USD 1,688. Founder Antonio Li stated his aim was to create the best robot available for under USD 2,000, making advanced physical artificial intelligence more widely available. Nori L3 features a wheeled base and 19 degrees of freedom.

The robot can lift up to 55 kilograms vertically and 1.5 kilograms with its arms extended. Its battery provides six to eight hours of operation. A central body core allows it to lift and lower its head and arms. Nori L3 is capable of various domestic tasks, including retrieving food from a refrigerator, pouring drinks, loading dishwashers, and folding clothes. The device incorporates lidar technology for navigation and multiple cameras for visual input.
And it also includes a Skill Marketplace, an integrated application store where owners can share unique abilities they have programmed into their robots, or download skills developed by others. The first iteration of the Nori robot began shipping in July, indicating that these units are already in production and not merely a concept. According to Forbes, Mr Li affirmed his organisation had achieved its goal with Nori L3.
Despite its capabilities, the Nori L3 does not operate as a bipedal unit and lacks exceptional speed. The robot may exhibit a degree of fragility. Its components were chosen based on cost considerations, which could mean they do not represent the highest quality actuators, joints, or other parts typically found in more expensive humanoid robots. Such compromises are common in devices at this price point.
But observers note the Nori L3 presents an interesting home appliance for those willing to engage with early stage technology. Any humanoid robot currently available on the market is likely to offer an experience that is less than perfect. The robots are assembled in San Francisco, United States. However, it is probable that most, if not all, of the internal components originate from overseas suppliers, particularly from China.
This sourcing arrangement might change in the future. The Federal Communications Commission has issued a decision to ban certain foreign robots, citing national security concerns. Such a prohibition could lead to a significant increase in the final product cost. Nor Robotics asserts the Nori L3 is "the most capable robot for USD 1,688". Given the limited competition within this specific price bracket, this claim appears to be accurate.
So this development suggests that functional robots do not necessarily require investments exceeding six figures to provide utility, entertainment, or a platform for physical artificial intelligence training. A price point below USD 2,000 makes the acquisition of a humanoid robot a more accessible option for a broader range of consumers. This affordability could lead to more spontaneous purchases of such devices for household use.
Additional technology integrated into the platform includes lidar for safe navigation and four cameras with 720 pixel resolution located on the robot's hands, head, and neck. A speaker and microphone facilitate voice communication and command input. The Nori Lab laptop application is also provided for training and managing the robot's functions.
And Nor Robotics typically produces its robots in small batches. The prior Nori L2 model, for example, had a production run limited to 100 units. Should the Nori L3 platform prove successful, future iterations, such as Nori L4 or L5, might offer enhanced capabilities but likely at a higher cost.
