Nintendo Set to Launch Switch 2 This Year, Unveiling More Details in April
Japan's Nintendo revealed its plans to launch the highly anticipated Switch 2 console, the successor to its popular Switch device, later this year. The Kyoto-based gaming giant kept the pricing under wraps for the new device, promising to share more information during a Nintendo Direct event scheduled for April 2.

Existing Switch software will be compatible with the upcoming console, although there may be some limitations on certain games. Fans and investors have eagerly awaited details about the new console, which seems to follow the successful hybrid home-portable Switch model closely.
Serkan Toto, founder of Kantan Games consultancy, commented on the reveal, stating, "What we saw is more like a 'Switch Pro' - an upgraded version that is bigger - than a Switch 2." He also predicted that the launch is likely to take place after June.
The original Switch played a pivotal role in Nintendo's resurgence after the lacklustre performance of the Wii U console, with over 145 million units sold to date. Nintendo has sustained the Switch's popularity since its 2017 launch through hardware updates and blockbuster games from iconic franchises like Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda.
Jefferies analyst Atul Goyal expressed optimism about the Switch 2's potential impact on hardware sales, stating, "The Switch 2 is poised to reinvigorate hardware sales." He also highlighted the expected high demand for the new console, potentially outstripping supply for several months or quarters.
Nintendo's console business remains a cornerstone of its operations, despite diversifying into areas like retail stores and theme parks featuring its beloved characters. Alongside Sony, Nintendo continues to lead the console market in Japan, even as mobile and cloud technologies offer alternative gaming platforms.
