Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica announced a new range of AI smart glasses, building on their Ray-Ban wearable devices. The new Meta Glasses start at USD 299, offering a lower price compared to the Ray-Ban Display glasses, which launched last year at USD 800.

Meta Platforms has invested billions of USD in its pursuit of "personal intelligence." The company posits that advanced gadgets and electronics will bring the benefits of artificial intelligence to individual users.
These new glasses are the first from Meta to not be associated with any of EssilorLuxottica’s popular brands, such as Ray-Ban or Oakley. This marks a departure from previous collaborations.
The Meta Glasses feature new colours and shapes, including a rectangle look. A slim oval frame collection was also designed in partnership with media personality Kylie Jenner.
They are the first AI glasses from Meta to launch with Meta AI, which is powered by Muse Spark. Muse Spark is the initial model from the company's Superintelligence Labs.
The devices are designed to allow for text display and AI interaction. This functionality differentiates them from some other smart eyewear options on the market.
The success of Meta's glasses has encouraged other technology companies, including Google and Apple, to explore developing similar devices. Meta's market presence has spurred industry-wide interest.
According to the International Data Corporation, global smart glass shipments reached 9.6 million units last year. Meta accounted for approximately 76.1% of the total shipments in this sector.
In a related development, Snapchat owner Snap launched a pair of augmented-reality glasses at a price of USD 2,195. Snap's glasses overlay digital content onto a user’s real-world view.
Meta Platforms and EssilorLuxottica launched new AI smart glasses starting at USD 299.
The Meta Glasses are the first to feature Meta AI, powered by Muse Spark.
They are also the first not associated with EssilorLuxottica's popular brands.
