Meta is preparing to release a new version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses this October, featuring a built-in display and a price tag exceeding USD 1,000, according to a report.

The upcoming model will allow users to access simple on-screen apps and review photos taken with the device, a major upgrade from the current version, which lacks a display.

Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, reported that Meta is prioritising the launch of these glasses as a critical product for 2025, although there is a slight risk of delay beyond October.

The current Ray-Ban Meta glasses have been praised for their lightweight design, stylish appearance, and features such as music playback, call handling, photo and video capture, object description, and live conversation translation.

The addition of a display is seen as a significant advancement, enabling users to immediately check their photos and videos without relying on external devices.

Gurman noted that the display design is crucial to avoid the awkward appearance associated with earlier smart glasses like Google Glass, which featured noticeable screens.

The report also highlighted the surprising absence of a competing product from Apple, despite its strong presence in the fashion tech market with products like the Apple Watch.

With Meta’s new release and Apple reportedly developing its own smart glasses, the augmented reality eyewear market is expected to become increasingly competitive.

  • The glasses will cost more than USD 1,000 and support on-screen apps
