Mercedes-Benz Unit Teams Up with Starbucks to Bring Fast-Charging Stations to the US
Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Starbucks to install fast-charging stations at over 100 sites in the United States. The initial phase will consist of 400 kW EV chargers along Interstate 5. The charging network has already grown to a dozen places in several states.
This programme seeks to provide simple and efficient charging choices for electric vehicle (EV) owners.
The first phase of the programme will see the installation of 400 kW EV chargers at Starbucks locations along Interstate 5, a key traffic corridor that runs from Canada to Mexico. This smart positioning ensures that EV drivers have access to fast-charging stations during their excursions.
The division in charge of this project, Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging, has already set up its first charging station in 2023 as part of a $1 billion investment. Since then, the charging network has grown to include a dozen facilities in several states, including Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
Looking ahead, ambitious plans are in the works to expand the network to nearly half of the country's states within the next 12-18 months. By the end of the decade, the network is expected to include around 10,000 charging points throughout the United States, Europe, China, and other significant regions.
