MeetSG Is WeChat’s New Mini Program That Helps Travellers Find Singapore’s Hotspots

Ever since I’ve started chatting more frequently with people residing in China, WeChat has gained a place in my heart. Privacy concerns aside, it’s a great messaging app with video calls, cute stickers and mini-programs. Now the Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS), Singapore Tourism Board (STB), and WeChat have announced the official launch of the MeetSG WeChat Mini Program (MeetSG).

It’s targeted towards Chinese users attending MICE events in Singapore, allowing them to quickly access information such as MICE venues and information. In the Mini Program, there are also discount vouchers for attractions as well as write-ups about food places, Michelin-starred restaurants, nightlife, shopping and cultural experiences in Singapore.

There’s also a link to launch another Mini Program created by STB, 体验新加坡, which translates to “Experiencing Singapore”. This is a Mini Program which is targeted more towards tourists, with itinerary planners, food suggestions, drink suggestions, sightseeing options and more.

I was particularly impressed by the recommendations for the F&B section, with some of my favourite bars showing up. It’s clear that the information in this program is carefully curated and not just haphazardly slapped together for the sake of it.

Pre-planned themed itineraries are also available, and the Peranakan one definitely seemed quite intriguing, with 328 Laksa rightfully being one of the food places recommended.

There are also hawker centre recommendations alongside restaurants in the Must Try List for food, which is a nice touch. It’s always good to have tourists immerse themselves in our local culture. That being said, I do think this is a great resource not just for tourists, but even for us Singaporeans.

The only downside is that many Singaporeans don’t use WeChat, but if this idea can be implemented in one of our local apps like Grab, I can only imagine how popular it would be.

The MeetSG Mini Program can be found by searching “智荟新加坡” in the WeChat app.
