The Taiwanese semiconductor giant announced its own flagship smartphone chipset for 2024, the Dimensity 9300, which was manufactured using TSMC's third-generation 4nm+ fabrication technology and consists of 22.7 billion transistors. The chipset boasts an "all-big core architecture" geared towards maximizing performance, featuring four Cortex X4s at 3.24GHz and four Cortex A720s at 2.00GHz.

All of that hardware under the hood allows the Dimensity 9300 to deliver up to a 15% increase in single-core performance and up to 40% in multi-core performance over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9200.

MediaTek further claims that its new chipset can rival, if not outperform, Snapdragon's own flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, in some benchmarks. The chipmaker claims the Dimensity 9300 recorded scores of 2,130,000+ in the AnTuTu benchmark in real-world conditions. In comparison, the leaked benchmark scores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered OnePlus 12 caps at 2,110,808.

This, of course, suggests MediaTek could give Snapdragon a run for its money in the high-end chipset space. Then again, these benchmarks should also be taken with a grain of salt as they come from the MediaTek itself.

The Dimensity 9300 also packs a 46% increase in GPU performance over its predecessor at the same power levels. It also delivers higher frames compared to its competitors on specific gaming benchmarks.

On top of these, the chipset packs a dedicated artificial intelligence (AI) processor, the APU 790, allowing it to run Stable Diffusion image generation on-device in less than a second.

Other features include improvements in computational photography and video, AI processing on RAW photos and videos and Ultra HDR support in Android 14, among others.

Currently, there's no word yet on what smartphones will be powered by the chipset, but it's safe to expect it'll start popping up in the international market by early next year.
