Latest Samsung Leak Unveils Exciting Upgrades for the All-New Galaxy Z Fold

Samsung's next foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, will have an updated design and new displays. There are indications of a cheaper variant, possibly marketed as an FE edition. Samsung is working to lower the price of its foldable devices by making construction changes to the bezels.

In a recent leak, details about Samsung's upcoming foldable smartphone, tentatively named the Galaxy Z Fold 6, have emerged. The leak suggests that the new device will feature an updated design and new displays, but there's one decision that could make Samsung stand out from its competitors in the foldable phone market.

Export data has revealed three model codenames with interesting modifiers: Q6, B6, and the intriguing Q6A. Based on previous naming conventions, it is likely that these codenames correspond to the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and a potential cheaper variant of the Z Fold series.

The "A" designation hints at a more affordable version of the Z Fold, aligning with Samsung's Galaxy A range, which offers a balance between price and performance. It is possible that this cheaper variant could be marketed under Samsung's Fan Edition brand, joining the ranks of the Galaxy S23 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE.

Samsung is actively working to reduce the price of both the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. One of the strategies involves making construction changes to the bezels, among other steps, to lower the overall cost. Introducing an FE model would allow Samsung to compromise on certain features that are considered essential for the main model, thereby offering a more budget-friendly foldable option.

Foldable phones, especially those with a book fold design like the Galaxy Z Fold series, have traditionally been expensive. The Z Fold 5, for instance, starts at a hefty $1799. While an FE version would likely come with a premium price tag compared to standard smartphones, it could still undercut other folding devices in the market. For example, the Pixel Book starts at $1799, and the OnePlus Open starts at $1699.

It's important to note that there is no guarantee that the Z Fold 6 FE or any other phone under development will actually make it to the market. However, if an FE edition does debut in the Z Fold series this year, Samsung would regain the upper hand in the foldable market. It would be the first to offer a "budget foldable" option, giving the company a competitive edge and supporting its mission to make Galaxy AI accessible to a wider range of customers.
