Chinese short video platform Kuaishou premiered three AI-generated science fiction shorts on an IMAX screen in Beijing on Wednesday, highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence in video production.

The shorts were created using Kuaishou’s proprietary AI tool, Kling, which supports tasks such as modelling, effects and editing. The event follows a similar move by Chinese tech company iReader, which recently used AI to help produce a short series based on a web novel.
Short-form science fiction is becoming a popular testing ground for AI video tools due to its high visual demands and relatively low production costs.
Kuaishou reported that Kling now has more than 22 million users and generates over 100 million yuan (about $13.9 million) in monthly revenue.
Rival platforms, including ByteDance’s Seedance, are also developing low-cost AI video solutions to compete in the rapidly evolving market.
Despite the advancements, creators have raised concerns about the quality and stability of AI-generated content. Intellectual property issues also remain a major challenge.
Disney and other companies have recently filed lawsuits against Midjourney over the unauthorised use of AI-generated likenesses of iconic characters.
