A recent leak indicates future iPhone models will present strikingly different display designs depending on the model, while some next-generation iPhones are anticipated to launch in Sept. This report details specifications for four devices: iPhone 18, second-generation iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The report, shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, suggests varying display features across the lineup. The iPhone 18 is expected for release in spring 2027, accompanying the iPhone 18e, which has no display details yet. The second-generation iPhone Air may also launch at that time.

The iPhone 18 is projected to retain its 15.93-cm display, 120Hz refresh rate, and Dynamic Island feature, consistent with the iPhone 17. Similarly, the second-generation iPhone Air is anticipated to feature a 16.64-cm 120Hz screen, mirroring the current iPhone Air model. These further-off phones show fewer changes.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected prior to spring 2027. These models will maintain current screen sizes and refresh rates. The iPhone 18 Pro will feature a 15.93-cm 120Hz display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a 17.42-cm 120Hz display. These specifications align with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models.

However, the report indicates a significant change for these Pro models, referencing a “new under-display area” instead of the Dynamic Island. Previous indications have suggested a shrinking Dynamic Island.

9to5Mac reported that “rumours have conflicted on what this will look like.” The publication further stated, “Some reporting says the new Dynamic Island will simply be reduced in size, but look similar to the current pill shape. Others have said we’ll get a simple hole-punch that’s offset to the top-left corner of the display.”

If accurate, this would mark the first instance of Pro and Air models featuring distinct display appearances. The potential new Dynamic Island design could also facilitate a future under-display camera for the iPhone.

  • Next-generation iPhones may feature diverse display designs.

  • iPhone 18 and second-generation iPhone Air models are expected to retain existing display features.

  • iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models are rumoured to introduce a “new under-display area.”
