The silicon giant on Monday, 16 October announced its new 14th Generation Core-series desktop CPUs, which are based on its Raptor Lake architecture.

The lineup is led by the Core i9-14900K, which has a Thermal Velocity Boost speed of up to 6GHz. Previously, only the Core i9-13900KS, which was released earlier this year, managed to hit those frequencies, though it was sold in small numbers. That puts the new Core i9-14900K the first chip to hit 6GHz that would be sold at volume.

The new top end option for the lineup also features 24 cores and 32 threads, making it an ideal choice for gamers that want to maxmimise performance.

Alongside the top end option, the new 14th Generation lineup includes the Core i7-14700K/KF and the Core i5-14600K/KF. The former features 20 cores and 28 threads, while the latter features 14 core and 20 threads.

With the exception of the new Core i7 model, the new chips can perhaps be described as overclocked versions of their respective previous generation models with some new connectivity features.

The Core i7 is the only chip in the lineup to change things up, adding a few more E-cores compared to its predecessor. It also boasts higher clock speeds and a larger cache.

All of new chips will work in Intel 600- and 700-series motherboards, with the company continuing to use LGA 1700 socket. That means any motherboard that works with Intel 12th Gen and 13th Gen will also work with the new 14th Gen chips.

Meanwhile, for connectivity, they'll support Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3, as well as discrete support for new Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless technologies. Additionally, they'll support Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5 wired connectivity, enabling up to 80Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth. They also support DDDR5 5600 and DDR4 3200 memory speeds.

Also, the 14th Gen chips with an integrated GPU feature UHD Graphics 770, the same with previous generation models.

The flagship Core i9-14900K is priced at US$589, while the Core i7-1700K and the Core i5-14600K are priced at US$409 and US$319, respectively. All three are available starting today, 17 October, at retail outlets and via OEM partner systems.
