Hyundai, Kia, and Baidu Forge Connected Car Alliance in Beijing: Advancing AI-driven Mobility

The two South Korean carmakers and Baidu signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Beijing last week, agreeing to work together on various aspects of connected car technology, including connectivity and self-driving capabilities.
As part of the partnership, Hyundai and Kia will also leverage Baidu's smart cloud computing technology to comply with Beijing's data regulations. Additionally, the companies will explore new business models that incorporate artificial intelligence technologies.
In a press release, Hyundai and Kia stated, "Through the strategic collaboration with Baidu, we will make efforts to establish the ecosystem for connected cars in the Chinese market." This collaboration comes at a time when the market for connected cars in China is rapidly expanding. According to Chinese data cited by Hyundai, annual sales of connected cars in China are expected to reach 17 million units this year, a significant increase from the 7.2 million units sold in 2019.
This partnership builds upon the existing relationship between Hyundai, Kia, and Baidu, which dates back to 2014. The companies have previously collaborated on projects such as the development of voice recognition technology.
