Honor Unveils Outward Foldable Smartphone That Transforms Into A Purse
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
Honor is exploring the idea of turning smartphones into fashion accessories.
The former Huawei sub-brand at IFA 2023 debuted a new concept smartphone that can mimic the look of a purse, demonstrating new ways to use flexible display technology.
Dubbed the V Purse, the foldable smartphone features two distinctive design characteristics that allow it to seamlessly transform from an everyday digital companion to a fashion statement.
First of which is the outward-facing panel that can show a series of always-on display wallpapers mimicking different purse styles. The wallpapers even include design elements like chains, feathers and tassels that react and sway with the smartphone as it moves.
Second is the smartphone's compatibility with a series interchangeable straps and chains that clip onto the hinge, enabling it to be worn over the shoulder, the same as traditional purses and handbags.
Honor claims that when folded, the V Purse is only 9mm thick, which is thinner than the company's other foldable smartphones. The smartphone also features a small button that unfolds the display.
As with the majority of concept smartphones, it's yet unclear whether the V Purse would ever make it to market and if so, when.
Alongside the V Purse, Honor unveiled its latest flagship foldable, the Magic V2. The new smartphone, according to the company, is the lightest and thinnest inward foldable smartphone it has put out thus far, weighing 231g and measuring 9.9mm thick when folded.
The Magic V2 also features an improved hinge mechanism that boosts its robustness and durability. It's said to have been certified to withstand more than 400,000 folds, which gives it a lifespan of up to ten years on 100 folds per day.
Other noteworthy features include a triple-rear camera setup, consisting of a 50MP main lens, a 50MP ultra-wide lens and a 20MP telephoto lens, a 16MP selfie camera and a 5,000mAh battery pack.
The Magic V2, which was first released in China, is making its international debut by Q1 next year, though pricing details have yet to be shared.
