Google will begin using processors made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in its upcoming Pixel smartphones, ending its reliance on Samsung chips.

The shift marks a major change for Google, which has used Samsung-made Tensor G series processors in its Pixel devices since 2020. The first of these, the Tensor G1, debuted in the Pixel 6 series. Every Pixel model through the upcoming Pixel 9 has used Samsung-produced chips.
Google has now entered a long-term partnership with TSMC to produce its next generation of Tensor processors. The agreement includes a 3- to 5-year contract and is expected to last until at least 2029, with the potential for extension.
The new Tensor G5 processor, built using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process, will debut in the Pixel 10 series. This series will include four models: Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The Pixel 10a may also feature the same chip.
The Tensor G5 is expected to deliver significant hardware upgrades. Improvements include an Always-on Commute (AoC) audio processor, enhanced TPU chips, improved IC design, server capabilities, and a liquid cooling system.
TSMC’s chip technology is already used in high-end devices from brands such as Apple, highlighting the quality Google aims to bring to its Pixel lineup.
