Google Pixel 10 Teaser Mocks Apple Over Siri AI Delay

Google has released a new teaser for its upcoming Pixel 10 smartphone, taking a direct jab at Apple for delaying its enhanced Siri AI features.

The 30-second ad, titled “Soon,” was posted Monday on YouTube and social media. It features a rotating Pixel phone and the phrase “Ask more of your phone,” set to an instrumental version of Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode.”

A male voice in the ad says, “If you buy a phone because of a new feature that’s coming soon but it’s coming soon for a full year, you could change your definition of ‘soon,’ or you could just change your phone.”

The ad appears to reference Apple’s announcement at its June 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference, where it introduced an upgraded Siri as part of its Apple Intelligence suite.

The enhanced Siri, included in the iOS 18 update, is designed to perform tasks across apps and use personal data like emails, texts and photos to offer more tailored assistance.

Originally expected in April, Apple confirmed in March that the new Siri features would be delayed until sometime in the coming year.

In a statement, Apple said, “It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”

The teaser has sparked reactions online, with Facebook users calling the ad “savage” and noting the irony of Google using a Dr. Dre song, given Apple’s acquisition of Beats by Dr. Dre over a decade ago.

The Pixel 10 is set to launch at the Made By Google event on Aug. 20. In the lead-up, Google has offered discounts on the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9, and provided a free year of Google AI Pro to Pixel 9 Pro owners.
