Google Pay Launches 'Hawker Pals' In Celebration of Singapore National Day
Updated: Aug 10, 2023
Google is taking part in Singapore's National Day festivities starting today.
The search engine giant is launching a new in-app mini-game on Google Pay, which you can access from 8 August to 20 August 2023, to help celebrate Singapore's 58th birthday. The game, titled Hawker Pals, celebrates Singaporeans' love for food, with you being tasked to keep four visiting Pals well-fed. These Pals are Meow Shanwang, Orh Lua & Orh nee, Merina Baey, and a mystery customer.
By completing daily payment actions during the period in which the game is accessible, you can serve up three well-loved local dishes such as steamed egg and chili crab to each of the four Pals. Each completed round rewards you with a scratch card, and after all four rounds, you can collect four scratch cards with a cashback totaling up to S$105.
These daily actions include:
Sending at least S$10 to a friend who is also on Google Pay
Making a PayNow/FavePay transaction of at least S$3 to merchants on Google Pay
Completing a short trivia on Singapore
"This National Day, Google Pay is joining in the festivities by celebrating a topic that locals are most excited about – our delicious cuisine," said Patrick Teo, Google Singapore's Engineering Director for Payments and Tech Site Leader. "Building off our well-loved Huat Pals social game earlier this year, our new group of Hawker Pals brings along more rewards and multiple cashback to our growing community of users throughout the two-week mini-game."
Google Pay is additionally bringing back Hawker Scanner this National Day to give you more chances to earn rewards. You simply have to use the app to scan specific everyday items, such as fruits and vegetable, among others at a hawker centre. Each successful scan nets you vouchers from partners like JBL, Sephora, 6ixty8ight or Sony as well as local brands such as Irvin's, Gain City, Ryde, Suntec+ or TADA.
If you haven't yet, you can download the Google Pay app via the Play Store on Android or the App Store on iOS.
Google is also featuring the iconic skyline of Clarke Quay as a Google Doodle on the Google Search homepage on National Day. In case you're unfamiliar, Google Doodle celebrates holidays and anniversaries of the lives of famous artists, pioneers, scientists and moments that inspire and connect people.
