This decision comes as the Biden administration has enacted measures to limit Chinese enterprises' use of U.S. technology, especially advanced semiconductors, over security concerns.

On Wednesday, The Information claimed that both Microsoft and Google are aggressively providing Chinese customers with access to Nvidia's AI chips via data centres situated outside China. This enables Chinese enterprises to take advantage of Nvidia's chips for their artificial intelligence requirements.

The Biden administration's efforts to prohibit the use of American technology for artificial intelligence in China have generated concerns about the sector's security implications. As a result, cloud companies may soon be required to assess whether foreign entities are accessing data centres in the United States for AI training purposes, as stated by U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in January.

While Microsoft has been offering server rental services to Chinese customers, including those equipped with Nvidia's A100 and H100 chips, through data centres located outside of China, Google has been allowing customers in China to use servers based outside of mainland China. Both companies are confident that their offerings comply with U.S. export controls.
