Google is introducing a new personalised image feed within its app, directly challenging TikTok, and Pinterest. This initiative aims to let users search for, and discover visual content beyond social media platforms.

The feature, which will roll out for Android, and iOS users, includes a new "Images" tab at the bottom of the Google app, positioned next to Search. It provides a daily feed of pictures tailored to individual interests.

While browsing, users can search for images, and save them to Pinterest-like collections. This development targets Gen Z users, who increasingly rely on platforms like TikTok, and Pinterest for visual inspiration.

The image tab counters this trend by offering a searchable feed of personalised visual content, keeping users within the Google app. This approach aims to capture user attention, and drive significant engagement.
By integrating the feed directly, Google leverages its vast existing user base. This strategy allows the organisation to potentially engage users before they access other visual discovery platforms.
This increased engagement presents new opportunities for Google. These include surfaces for advertisements, sponsored content, and the ability to guide users directly into shopping experiences.
For users, the Images feed offers a source of pure visual inspiration. It is designed to be free from social media pressures, and potentially immune from legislative restrictions, should Google expand it internationally.
The feature is currently rolling out to US users on Android, and iOS devices. Google has not yet announced details regarding a wider international release.
