Fitbit Edge

Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, a slim fitness tracker that sits between its advanced Pixel Watch and the simpler Fitbit Air band. The company describes the device as lightweight and comfortable, a daily companion rather than a full smartwatch. Google says it built the Edge for people who want a middle path between a screenless band and a smartwatch worn on the wrist.

The Edge promises up to seven days of battery life on a single charge. Google rates the case at 5 ATM for water resistance and IP68 for dust and water. Both figures come from the company's own launch post, and both depend on how the owner uses the device, so they are best read as ceilings rather than everyday expectations, since Google notes that heavier use of certain features shortens battery life.

So the tracker leans on fitness work first. More than 50 workouts can be started from the wrist, and Google says the precision GPS is up to 40% more accurate than earlier generations. An integrated altimeter measures elevation change on hill runs and stair workouts, while automatic activity recognition recognises and categorises up to 100 workouts even when the wearer forgets to press start.

Health tracking runs mostly in the background. An ECG app on the wrist takes heart rhythm assessments, and continuous optical heart rate monitoring follows rest and recovery through the day. Google says its Health Guardian features watch blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends, and high and low heart rate alerts without the wearer doing anything, which means the value sits in the pattern over weeks rather than in any single reading.

Coaching sits behind the Google Health Premium subscription. A coach offers personalised lifestyle and wellness guidance, adapts a fitness plan, and gives context for conversations with a doctor. Buying the tracker includes three months of the service, and Google sells the plan separately once that period ends.

The interface is built on the experience Google introduced with the Pixel Watch 5. Glanceable complications and tiles bring sleep, cycle tracking, and heart rate to the wrist, alongside Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications. And customisable watch faces and interchangeable bands let owners change the look without changing the device.

Google sets clear limits on the health claims. The trends are for general wellness and are not a diagnosis, and the device is not intended for medical purposes. Those caveats sit in the company's own footnotes, and they apply to every wellness feature described above.

The Edge retails at US$179.99 in the United States and S$249 in Singapore, with three months of Google Health Premium included, and it works with phones running Android 11 or higher and Apple iOS 16.4 or higher. Buyers in Singapore can reserve one now at Metapod, Best Denki, Shopee, and Lazada. From 27 October 2026 the tracker goes on sale in stores and online through Metapod, Best Denki, FairPrice, and Harvey Norman, and online through Shopee and Lazada.
